One effective way to keep your files and folders away from other users eyes is by opting for powerful encryption tools. Programs like GiliSoft File Lock Pro will help you prevent others from accessing your private documents and inform you whenever there's an access attempt.
Before installing the application, you will need to enter a master password and optionally your email address (in case you wish to receive access attempt notifications). I strongly recommend you to write down your email address as well so that you can recover your access password in case you forget it.
GiliSoft File Lock Pro will let you deny read and write actions to any selected files, folders and even entire hard drives. You will also be able to hide the private files or folders in a few clicks and the application will send you notifications whenever a user is trying to access the protected files.
An aspect I don't like about this program is that you can't encrypt files or folders from a connected removable device. Plus, you don't have access to an offline manual and advanced protection settings, like one to choose an encryption mode or algorithm.
Despite the mentioned disadvantages, GiliSoft File Lock Pro managed to encrypt any selected file or folders within moments. But, if you are looking for a program that offers advanced protections settings, you should probably try other encryption tools.

I was under the impression that I would see the locked folder and then just enter the password created in File Lock Pro to open the folder and see its content. It also hides the locked folder on my own PC as well.
Of course, it creates an EXE file and with this I can unlock it but if I want to use it in a different way, this is no use for me.
Example: If I want to hide a folder in a purpose to protect it to avoid some people to see the locked folder when using a video player app on my iPad with a SMB/CIFS access, I just don't see the locked folder and I can't open an EXE file with an iPad!
What's wrong?
